Welcome to another Quickie by MoomMist

Gingham checks are always popular and trying to get the effect can sometimes seen difficult, so here is an easy and simple way to make any color you would like. These are great for table background for web pages or stationery. I hope you enjoy this and all the gingham checked background you can make.

Lets get started

Supplies: Just PSP any version. You can get a 30 day trial of the latest version at Jasc.com

Step 1:
Open a new image 100 x 100 transparent.
Choose 2 colors you would like to work with on your color palette. The settings used here are: Set the Foreground to White #FFFFFF, and the Background to #B60909 for the sample in this tutorial. The most popular are white and one (1) other color, sometimes an off-white works nice also, or perhaps purple and green or teal.

Step 2:
On your tool options bar double click the selection tool and a window will pop up that looks like this:

Enter the following settings: Left - 0, Right - 20, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
(You will be doing this or similar step a total of 6 times.)
Click Ok
Go to your Floodfill bucket and fill the selected area with the white
Your other settings for the rest of the image are listed below:
Selections # 2 Left - 20, Right - 40, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
Floodfill with your 2nd color.

Selections # 3 Left - 40, Right - 50, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
Floodfill with your white.
(Note - the smaller size of the selections)

Selections # 4 Left - 50, Right - 60, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
Floodfill with your 2nd color.

Selections # 5 Left - 60, Right - 80, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
Floodfill with your white.
( Back to 20 pixels)

Selections # 6 Left - 80, Right - 100, Top - 0, Bottom - 100
Floodfill with your 2nd color.

Step 3:
Now go up to Selections.

Deselect

Step 4:
Make sure your layer palette is visible and that your top layer is selected.

Duplicate your layer # 1

Step 5:
Up to the menu and choose Image - then the drop down menu choose Rotate

and another window will open with options

Choose Left 90° and make sure that the option of All Layers is UN-checked

Step 6:
Back to your layer palette, and this time making sure all layers are visible and your top layer (the one you just rotated) is selected, lower the opacity to 60%, you can play around with this to see how bright you want your colors, just make sure that you can see the bottom layer through your image. Fun huh?

Merge visible and save as a .jpg. You are finished and have a wonderful new background. If you want to make sure that it is tiled, which it will be if you have followed all the directions, open 20/20 and paste and view tiled image.
Here are a couple I've made, make lots they are little and fun.

I hope you have enjoy this. Check back often, there is always something cooking at Angelic Directions.
